Children and Young People

At Cancerhelp we recognise the impact illness or the death of a loved one can have on a child or young person.
In 2014 we formally launched the STRIDE children and young people’s service to provide therapeutic support to children and young people, aged 5 to 19 years of age, who have been bereaved of a parent, carer or loved one or who are living with someone who has a cancer diagnosis. We also provide support to children and young people with a cancer diagnosis.
We accept referrals from parents, carers and young people over the age of 16. We welcome schools, CAMHS, Social Care, voluntary and statutory organisations involved in the health and well-being of children and young people to contact us for guidance and support.
The therapy we offer is tailored to the individual need of each child or young person and may include play, art and creative work to help a child or young person express their feelings and emotions.
We also provide specialist support and advice to parent’s, carers, schools and professionals involved in the lives of bereaved children and young people.
Our children and young people’s service is supported by fully qualified Counsellors who are registered members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have graduate or post graduate training in therapy with children and young people.
